Epson moves to Westside

* After 20 years located on Maylands Avenue, Hemel Hempstead, Epson moved to new premises a short distance away in Apsley on 7th December 2009.

The new Westside location will be home to over 250 Epson UK and Epson Europe staff and better suits the needs of the company with a larger demonstration area and improved facilities to run its popular ‘Print Academy’ courses. The distinctive atrium incorporates a staff restaurant giving a light, bright area in which staff can relax.

Label industries band together to create world organisation

The world’s major self-adhesive label trade associations have banded together to create the L8 Group which will harmonise their work to promote the industry as globalisation becomes an increasingly important factor.

The new grouping was created at a summit meeting held at the Labelexpo Asia gathering in Shanghai and will hold its first full meeting in Barcelona on March 13 to coincide with the FINAT technical seminar. The second meeting will be held at Labelexpo Chicago in September.

Environmental impact assessment for UPM’s biorefinery concluded in Finland; similar process starting in France

The environmental impact assessment for a possible second generation biofuel refinery has been concluded in Rauma and Kuusankoski, Finland. The responsible authority, Southeast Finland Regional Environment Centre, has issued its official statement concerning the assessment. In the statement the authority commends that the assessment made by UPM is well prepared and includes a lot of information about the different implementation alternatives and their environmental impacts. The authority concluded that the assessment is sufficient and meets the requirements of the EIA law and statute.

European Bioplastics welcomes French framework agreement on compostable waste bags

European Bioplastics, the association of the bioplastics industry in Europe, welcomes the recently signed framework agreement supporting compostable bio-based plastic waste bags in France. The new agreement intends to develop the availability of compostable bio-based plastic waste bags in mass retailing in order to promote the selective collection of compostable waste.

European Bioplastics regards this new initiative as a significant contribution to environmentally sound waste management. “The use of certified compostable bioplastic waste bags supports the organic recovery of biodegradable waste”, says Hasso von Pogrell, Managing Director of European Bioplastics. “The French agreement can therefore be seen as a role model for other European Countries.” he adds.

ECO Sheet underlines Environmental Credentials

RPC Cobelplast-Montonate has underlined its environmental credentials with the development of a new range of A-PET sheet for printing and box applications, manufactured using 50-70% post-consumer recycled (PCR) A-PET scrap.

The site already stresses the importance of using eco-friendly materials, and ensures that all of its products can be easily recycled. The new ECO range goes one step further by utilising waste plastic that would otherwise go to landfill.

MMCanals Offers First Digitally Printed Capsules and Caps Service in Spain

HP today announced that Manufacturars Metálicas Canals S.A. (MMCanals) has installed two HP Indigo press ws4500s for printing capsules and caps for use by the food and drink industries.

For some time, advocates of digital printing have predicted that digital presses would come to be used by packaging companies and other manufacturers whose primary activities were other than printing. In bringing digital printing into its manufacturing facility, MMCanals is the first to offer this type of service in Spain, and it is reaping the benefits.
