* Prestigious industry award for KODAK System that adds a 3D look and ‘feel’ to digital prints

Kodak scooped a major prize for its revolutionary NexPress Dimensional Printing System at this year’s German Printing Industry’s Innovation Awards. The system was named a ‘most innovative technology’ in the Printing category by the readers of three leading trade magazines – Deutscher Drucker, Publishing Praxis and Grafische Palette. Readers were asked to choose from a total of 30 new technologies nominated by the magazines’ editors.

3D effect creates stunning ‘tactile’ communications

The KODAK NEXPRESS Dimensional Printing System allows owners of Kodak NexPress Digital Production Color Presses to add a striking 3D effect to text, images and graphic elements, helping their customers’ communications literally stand out in a crowded marketplace. The process uses KODAK NEXPRESS Dimensional Clear Dry Ink, which creates a clear ‘raised’ layer on the prints in the Fifth Imaging Unit of a NexPress Press. It can be set to achieve variable heights so that the texture of objects in images can be very closely mimicked. And because Dimensional Printing is a streamlined inline process, there is no dip in press productivity while the highly visual effects are created.

The Innovation Awards ceremony took place on Print Night on September 24 in Stuttgart, Germany, and was attended by around 400 invited guests from the printing and media industries and their suppliers.

The Innovation Awards mark the third international industry accolade landed by the KODAK NEXPRESS Dimensional Printing System this year. In April, the system scooped a coveted PIF Gold Medal in Poland, in a competition that celebrates modern design, innovation and functionality. Then in August, Printing Industries of America awarded the Dimensional Printing System one of the 2009 InterTech Technology Awards – the highest honor for innovation in the graphic communications industry.

“The German Printing Industry’s Innovation Award represents yet another prestigious accolade for the KODAK NEXPRESS Dimensional Printing System, and is further market recognition of Kodak’s innovative ethos,” says Andreas Nielen-Haberl, Product Category Manager, EAMER, Graphic Communications Group. “Dimensional Printing enables print providers to add value to their products and offer their customers something different. And by setting themselves apart from the competition, they’re perfectly placed to attract new business.”
