Printing Plus, which has retail outlets in Kendal and Lancaster, reports that it is growing their business in spite of the recession thanks to the installation of a Presstek 34DI digital offset press from Presstek, Inc., a leading manufacturer and marketer of digital offset printing solutions.

Printing Plus was finding it difficult to maintain its position, as providers of four-colour printing, in such a competitive market.  “We were working harder, with more overtime and tighter margins, simply to turn the work around and meet customers’ deadlines,” said Howard Turner, owner.  “We evaluated the Presstek 34DI press as a replacement for our conventional two-colour offset press and a computer-to-plate system.  We knew that the

“The Presstek 34DI press is super-fast, efficient and clean.  Registration is no longer an issue for us since the plates are imaged automatically on press.  The press comes up to colour in less than 30 sheets, so there is little wastage,” he continued.  “It’s shaved two days off the time it would have taken us to produce 500 copies of an A5 flyer, printed both sides.  Being waterless, the jobs dry very quickly, whereas previously we would probably have waited until the next day before we could put them through the press again.  Added to this, we can take on jobs with solid colours, tight registration and graduated tints with no problem at all.”

“We have moved all of the longer run jobs from our Xerox printer over to the Presstek 34DI press, since it is more cost effective and the quality of the DI press is better.  The Presstek 34DI press is definitely helping to grow our company now and in the future.  We could never have handled the volume of work on our previous litho press,” Howard concluded.
