* British Book Awards recognises Connekt Colour for print excellence
.
HP today announced that Connekt Colour, of Berkhamstead, Hertfordshire, has won the prestigious British Book Design and Production Award in the ‘Best digitally printed book’ category.
‘God’s Cook Book: Tracing the Culinary Traditions of the Levant,’ by Jamie d’Antioc, is a 368-page specialist book, illustrated with photographs in a 295 x 220mm format, and printed on Connekt Colour’s HP Indigo press 5000. In awarding the prize, the judges commented, “This was the most exquisitely produced digitally printed book. The jacket, the printed end papers and the clean, crisp reproduction of the images were excellent and of lithographic quality for a digitally printed book. Well done to Connekt Colour.”
Connekt Colour has a strong prepress tradition, which led cover designer, Phil Cleaver, to contact the company to scan and digitise the original recipes held on glass photographic plates.
“We believe that the British Book Design and Production Award is fabulous, and represents industry recognition for this and the quality of our offering,” said Dave Davies, managing director, Connekt Colour. “This success is largely attributable to our employees and company ethos, but also because of our choice of technology – specifically the HP Indigo press 5000.”
One challenge was that the customer wanted to achieve a softer look and feel, so sourcing a stock that could provide this was a key part of the job. The sapphire coated Stow Book Wove proved ideal, and combined with the characteristics of HP ElectroInk, the result was the winning litho-quality print, but with a more authentic feel. Connekt Colour was also able to provide proofs on the final media throughout the process.
“The digital side of our business has really matured in the last six months, and our customers are now taking full advantage of its many benefits to deliver what they need – more successful marketing applications, reduced print runs, lower costs and personalisation capabilities,” Davies concluded.
Established in 1991, Connekt Colour merged in 2001 with the Technic Group, a leading UK based prepress house. Utilising the strengths and expertise of both parties, the addition of Connekt Colour enabled both companies to close the loop in their service offering and with the installation of its HP Indigo press 5000 in 2007, the company became one of the market’s most prominent, privately owned, full service print providers.
Current Connekt Colour customers include a mix of direct and agency based clients working with international brands. In addition to high quality prepress and digital photography, Connekt Colour offers a wide range of litho and digitally printed products for the commercial print and publishing markets. Typical applications include direct mail, brochures, newsletters, book printing and many more.
