Geoffrey Bruce Ltd has become one of the most respected producers of soft fruit in Scotland, growing and packing top quality Scottish strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackcurrants.  The company was seeking a reliable tray sealer for its punnets of strawberries and raspberries as part of the move by major UK supermarkets to top sealed packs instead of clip on lids.

The Proseal GT2 is one of the fastest tray sealers on the market, offering a top speed of up to 96 packs per minute.  At the same time, special features such as servo-controlled pack transfer which creates a smooth movement for trays throughout the sealing process, and self-centring pack guides, which ensure trays are accurately positioned for sealing, mean product quality is maintained even at the highest speeds.

Proseal’s proven advanced lightweight and high strength ‘Auto Tool’ connection system enables tool changes to be carried out in around three minutes.  Downtime is also minimised by the use of quick-change conveyor belts, and an auto-lock film reel holder.  The machine’s practical design is enhanced by situating the electrical controls above the sealing area, and this also allows safe access for cleaning.  Other useful features to help maintain consistent operation include automatic film snap and film end detection.

A user-friendly menu-driven control panel allows ease of set up and operation, which can be remotely accessed and controlled.  The screen also provides detailed production data, production monitoring and full diagnostics.

Full double-sided operation is provided by a swing arm control interface for enhanced accessibility.  A rugged construction (manufactured to food industry approved hygiene standards with full wash-down protection) delivers excellent reliability.

“We have been very impressed with the GT2, which has more than lived up to expectations in terms of its performance, reliability and simplicity of operation,” comments Geoffrey Bruce Ltd’s Manager James White.

“The nature of our business means we can be asking the machine to work a 14 hour shift one day and a one hour shift the next, so it was vital that it was flexible enough to adapt to these needs and reliable enough not to let us down at an inopportune moment.

“While the machine’s performance has been excellent, we have also been reassured by the superb service back up provided by Proseal.  This included having an engineer based in Scotland during our peak season so that any issue could be dealt with extremely quickly.”
